The first group of athletes from Turkmenistan arrived at the XIX Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou

The first group of athletes from Turkmenistan arrived in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, where the XIX Summer Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8.

The Asian Games are international complex sports competitions held every four years under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia. Athletes from 45 countries take part in them, competing in 61 sports disciplines, reports the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

Turkmenistan is taking part in the Asian Games for the eighth time. The national team of Turkmenistan, which arrived in Hangzhou, includes 67 athletes who will perform in 12 sports - 3x3 basketball, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, jiu-jitsu, judo, kurash wrestling, karate-do, athletics, swimming, weightlifting athletics and wushu.

The first group of Turkmen athletes, which included representatives of boxing, wushu and swimming, flew to Hangzhou from Ashgabat in transit through Urumqi. The athletes spent a total of 8 hours on the road.

At the same time as the Turkmen athletes, delegations from India and Tajikistan arrived in Hangzhou.

At the previous Asian Games, which was held in Jakarta and Palembang in 2018, the Turkmenistan team won one silver and two bronze medals.

Weightlifter Kristina Shermetova (up to 53 kg) was awarded silver, and jiu-jitsu fighter Kemal Meredov (up to 56 kg) in the ne-waza competition and Greco-Roman wrestler Shikhazberdi Ovelekov (up to 87 kg) won bronze awards.
