Historical sites along the route “Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor” are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was made at the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As newscentralasia.net reports with reference to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in France, the transnational serial nomination “Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor” includes 31 monuments located in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. This nomination reflects outstanding achievements in the field of architecture and technology, monumental art and urban planning on this section of the Silk Road from the II century BC to the XVI century AD.
A delegation led by Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev took part in the session from Turkmenistan.
“Today Turkmenistan, together with our fraternal colleagues Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, represents the important legacy of the Great Silk Road on the world stage in our joint nomination “Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor.” This initiative not only continues the ancient traditions of the route, but also emphasizes the long-standing friendly relations between the countries of Central Asia”, - said M. Charyev.
On behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, the Ambassador expressed deep gratitude to the assessment body of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for including the joint nomination of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on the World Heritage List.
