The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received a message from the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban with an invitation to take part in the main event of athletics - the World Championships, held for the first time in Budapest, the information program "Watan" of the Turkmen television reported today.
“Every year, August 20 has a special meaning in the life of Hungarians. This is the most important date of the national calendar as we celebrate the Day of our founding king Saint Stephen. However, this year the celebration will be even more unique. Hungary will be in the spotlight of the whole world as Budapest will host the World Championships in Athletics from 19 to 27 August,” Orban said in a message.
The Prime Minister of Hungary specifically noted that it would be an honor for him to welcome the head of the highest representative body of the people's power of Turkmenistan and his family to the new National Athletics Center, where they will witness the final 100-meter race among men, after which a reception will be held at the Carmelite Monastery, as well as the most spectacular fireworks display in Europe.
World championships in athletics have been held since 1983. Initially, these competitions were held every 4 years, since 1991 - 1 time in 2 years.
All disciplines of the championship (except road) will be held at the new stadium with a capacity of 35 000 spectators, which was specially built for the World Cup.
At the upcoming World Championships, the 50 km race walk competitions for men and women have been replaced by 35 km starts. After the Tokyo Olympics, 50K runs have been excluded from all major international races.
For the second time in the history of the Summer World Championships, the 4x400m mixed relay will be held.
The types of programs in the men's and women's parts of the competition are almost identical, with the exception of the all-around. For men, this type consists of 10 disciplines, for women - from 7.
