Colombian rescuers who found four children who survived a plane crash and spent 40 days in the Amazonian jungle were awarded medals, reports RIA Novosti. Colombian President Gustavo Petro personally presented awards to soldiers and local residents who took part in the search during a ceremony in Bogotá.

A light-engine Cessna 206 aircraft flying from Araraquara to San Jose del Guaviare crashed on May 1 in the impenetrable Amazonian selva (tropical jungle of South America). There were six passengers and the pilot on board. All adults died in the disaster, but children aged 13, 9, 4 years and 11 months managed to survive. They left the crash site and went deeper into the forest. They spent 40 days in the jungle, eating fruits and rainwater. The children were helped to survive by the fact that they were from one of the local Indian tribes and knew the jungle quite well.

All this time, the search did not stop, the rescuers found the children dehydrated and bitten by insects, but alive only on June 9.
