The Spanish football club Sevilla beat the Italian Roma in a penalty shootout and became the winner of the Europa League. The final meeting of the tournament was held on Thursday night in Budapest at the Ferenc Puskas stadium, TASS reports.
The main time of the match and two additional halves ended in a draw - 1:1. As part of Roma, Paulo Dybala scored a goal (35th minute), in the 55th minute, Italian team defender Gianluca Mancini sent the ball into his own net. The penalty shootout ended 4-1 in favor of Sevilla.
It is worth noting that Sevilla became the winner of the Europa League for the seventh time in history, the club holds the record for this indicator. Previously, the team won the tournament in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020.
The victory in the Europa League final guaranteed Sevilla participation in the group stage of the Champions League in the 2023/24 season.
The team is 11th in the table before the last round of the championship of Spain and, following the results of the national season, could at best qualify for the Conference League.
The head coach of the Spanish team is Jose Luis Mendilibar. He took charge of Sevilla during the season, replacing Argentinean Jorge Sampaoli.
