The UK Supreme Court has ruled to permit animal testing of cosmetics to resume, reports The Telegraph.

The ban on the use of experimental animals for testing cosmetics in the UK was adopted in 1998 in accordance with the standards of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). According to these standards, some ingredients must be tested on animals in order not to endanger people.

Most of the major cosmetics companies, including Unilever, Boots and the Body Shop, said they believe the decision will come as an unpleasant surprise to the millions of cosmetics users who support the ban on animal testing.
