The new representative of Turkmenistan to the European Union, Sapar Palvanov, presented copies of his credentials in Brussels. This is stated in the message of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.

Sapar Palvanov presented copies of his credentials to Thierry Bechet, Chief of Protocol of the European External Action Service.

During the meeting, the diplomats exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and ways to bring it to a new level.

Sapar Palvanov confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to expanding areas of cooperation and improving existing bilateral mechanisms.

Among the main topics of the conversation was the establishment of contacts at the highest level, which, of course, will give a tangible impetus to the development of the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union on its key tracks.

The diplomats noted that there are many untapped points of growth in bilateral relations, and agreed to intensify the search for promising mutually beneficial partnership formats. Such areas as environmental protection, energy, education and others were identified as priority areas.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov appointed Sapar Palvanov as the new head of the Turkmen delegation to the European Union on February 18. By this time, Palvanov held the post of Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, to which he was appointed in July 2022. The Turkmen diplomatic mission in Brussels is also responsible for relations with the EU, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, as well as with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Sapar Palvanov is fluent in English, Russian and Turkish. He has been in the diplomatic service since 2013, worked as a teacher at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Since 2015, he specialized in the department for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and in 2018 he became the head of this department.
