Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov announced the start of work on reforming the system of higher education in the country, writes the “Izvestia” newspaper.

Higher education in Russia will become three-stage, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science explained. The first, basic stage is from 4 to 6 years of higher education without a narrow specialization. The second stage will be a specialized higher education, it will include a magistracy (1-2 years), as well as residency and assistantship-internship. The third stage is postgraduate study.

According to the minister, the basic level of higher education will correspond to a bachelor's or a specialist's degree. The specialized level is suitable for those who have successfully mastered the basic level of higher education and intend to improve their knowledge in a particular area.

The task of postgraduate studies is the training of scientific and scientific-practical personnel. For admission to graduate school, you will need to have a basic level of higher education for at least five years.

In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin put forward an initiative to return to the traditional basic system of training specialists with higher education for a period of 4 to 6 years. The head of state noted that such a return would have to be carried out gradually.
