Turkmen students took part in the International Commercial Arbitration Competition in Vienna for the first time

The team of the International University for the Humanities and Development took part in the competition on private international law and international commercial arbitration named after Willem S. Vis, which was held in person in Vienna (Austria), reports the press service of the university.

The competition brought together 1100 arbitrators and more than 2,5 thousand students from all over the world, who were divided into 378 teams.

The IUHD team was represented by:

  • 4th year students of the Faculty of Private Law Shemshat Annageldiyeva and Altyn Orazberdiyeva;
  • 2nd year student of the Faculty of Private Law Begli Atayev;
  • 4th year student of the Faculty of International Management Leyli Dovyyeva.

Turkmen students had a chance to take part in the general round of oral hearings, for which they submitted their memorandums on behalf of the plaintiff and the defendant, which were subsequently presented at oral hearings.

It should be noted that this competition has been held annually since 1993 under the auspices of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), a number of international arbitration institutions (ICC, LCIA, CIETAC, SCC, etc.), as well as with the support of Pace University, Queen Mary, Stockholm University, University of Vienna and is currently the most respected student competition in private international law and international commercial arbitration.

Vis Competition contributes to a deep study of international commercial law and arbitration, will permit you to study the provisions of the Vienna Convention on the International Sale of Goods, improve your skills in presenting your own position on individual legal issues, defend your point of view, reflect the arguments of opponents and questions of arbitrators during the court session, develop team skills, learn how to correctly express your thoughts in English”, - the source notes.
