President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino will visit Tajikistan, where on May 1 he will take part in the congress of the Football Association of Central Asia.
What issues the congress will be devoted to is not reported, “ASIA-Plus” notes.
The Football Federation of Tajikistan earlier announced that the draw for the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association among national teams also will be in May.
It is expected that the teams of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will take part in the tournament on June 9-21.
Another Asian team has also been invited: according to preliminary data, the team of Thailand.
The Russian Football Union has confirmed the participation of the national team in the first CAFA championship, but the contract with the organizers has not yet been signed.
The CAFA‑2023 championship will be held at the stadiums in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan).
The results of the championship matches will be used to offset the FIFA rankings.
The Football Association of Central Asia is a division of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which coordinates the development of football in the countries of this region. CAFA was founded on June 10, 2014 and officially began functioning on January 9, 2015. It unites the football federations of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Until mid-2015, the organization was called the Central Asian Football Federation.
