The Russian national football team will take part in the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) in June. The Match TV channel announced this with reference to the press secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan Faridun Saliev.
“The Russian team will take part in the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) with the participation of men's national teams, which will be held in Tashkent and Bishkek from June 9 to 21 this year”, - Saliev said.
He also noted that all six members of the Central Asian Football Association - Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have confirmed their participation in the CAFA‑2023 championship.
In addition, another Asian team was invited to participate in the new CAFA tournament.
The press service of the Football Federation of Tajikistan also said that eight teams will be divided into two groups. Each team will play at least three matches. The winners of the groups will play in the final, and the teams that will be the second in the quartets will fight for the third place.
Let us remind that in the fall of last year, Valery Karpin's wards played three friendly matches with the teams of Kyrgyzstan (2:1), Tajikistan (0:0) and Uzbekistan (0:0).
On March 23, in Tehran, the Russians will play a test match with the Iranian team, and on March 26 in St. Petersburg with the Iraqi team.
