The international tournament “Cup for the Founders of Sambo” ended in Moscow.

The competition brought together athletes from 10 countries who competed for prizes in 7 weight categories among men, women and in combat sambo. The members of the national team of Turkmenistan competed with sambists from Russia, the Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, China, Tajikistan and Morocco.

According to the results of the two-day tournament, the team of Turkmenistan won 5 medals. Of these - 1 gold and five bronze.

On the first day of the competition, Babajan Ivadullayev won the highest standard award in the national team of Turkmenistan, who became the winner in combat sambo in the weight category over 98 kg. Bronze medals were awarded to Sapar Dovletov (up to 64 kg) and Begench Baltayev (up to 79 kg) in sports sambo, and Mammetgurban Mammetgurbanov (up to 88 kg) in combat sambo.

On the last day of the competition, the representative of combat sambo Meylis Niyazmenliyev (up to 64 kg) became the bronze medalist.

Previously, this tournament was held under the name “A. A. Kharlampiev Memorial”. It was established in 1980 on the initiative of the Department of Physical Education of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where one of the founders of Sambo, Anatoly Arkadyevich Kharlampiev, worked in recent years. In 2009, these competitions changed their name to the “A. A. Kharlampiev Memorial” Sambo World Cup. Since 2022, its organizers have changed the name of the international tournament to the “Cup for the Founders of Sambo”, having decided to restore historical justice, because Sambo was developed by: Anatoly Kharlampiev, Vasily Oshchepkov and Viktor Spiridonov.
