On March 23, the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the US House of Representatives held court hearings on the initiative to completely ban the TikTok social network in the United States, writes Kun.uz. The hearing was attended by TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi.

The US suspects that TikTok may be sharing personal data of American users with Chinese authorities, and the social network is also credited with harmful effects on children.

According to the CEO of the company, TikTok is registered in the United States, obeys the laws of this country and never shares information about its users with China. Moreover, TikTok is not available in mainland China, and Chew Shou Zi himself is not of Chinese, but of Singaporean origin.

In the US, the TikTok controversy has been going on for years. At the end of last year, Congress banned the installation of the social network application and the use of the resource itself on all devices owned by the federal government.

According to Reuters, a complete ban on TikTok in the United States is unlikely to be expected, at least in the foreseeable future, due to the fact that even if the White House imposes a ban on this social network, this decision can be challenged in court as contrary to the first amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of information.
