Mesut Ozil, the 2014 World Cup champion in the German national team, has announced his retirement from professional football.

“In recent weeks and months, after several injuries, it became clear that it was time to leave the big football arena”, - Ozil wrote on one of the social networks.

34 years old Ozil has played for “Schalke”, “Werder”, “Real” Madrid, “Arsenal” London, “Fenerahce” and “Istanbul Basaksehir” throughout his career.

At the international level, he played 92 matches for the German national team, scored 23 goals and gave 40 assists. Five times recognized as “player of the year” in the German national team, which is a record. Participated in three world championships, two European championships. In 2014 he became the world champion. After the 2018 World Cup, Ozil retired from the national team.
