At the first session of the 14th National People's Congress taking place in the Chinese capital, Xi Jinping was re-elected as President of the PRC. The decision was taken unanimously.

Xi Jinping will become the first leader in Chinese history to be re-elected for a third term, this was made possible thanks to changes made to the Chinese constitution in 2018, from which the provision was removed, according to which the President of China had the right to hold this post for only two five-year terms. The newly re-elected President of China received 2952 votes, reports CNN. Xi Jinping was also re-elected as Chairman of the Central Military Council (CMC) of the People's Republic of China.

Han Zheng, who is the first vice premier of the Chinese State Council, was elected to the post of Vice President of the People's Republic of China.

Xi Jinping became General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2012, and the following year he was elected President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Council (CMC).
