President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Governor-General of New Zealand, Mrs. Cindy Kiro, and all the people of the country on the occasion of New Zealand's national holiday - Waitangi Day, celebrated today, reported on today's issue of the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

Taking this pleasant opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan expressed sincere wishes to Mrs. Cindy Kiro for good health, happiness and prosperity, and peace, further progress and prosperity to the friendly people of New Zealand.

On February 6, 1840, a joint ratification of the Treaty of Waitangi by representatives of Great Britain and Maori leaders from the New Zealand United Tribes Union was held in a temporarily pitched tent with the name “accord building” in the Waitangi district of the New Zealand city of Paihia. By state agreement, New Zealand officially acquired the status of a colony and thus became part of the British Empire.

This date is considered the “birthday” of modern New Zealand, and February 6 is celebrated as the country's national holiday - Waitangi Day.
