President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent sincere congratulations and best wishes to Alain Berset on his election as President of the Swiss Confederation, the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reported today.
Taking this pleasant opportunity, the head of Turkmenistan expressed wishes of good health, happiness, prosperity and big success to Alain Berset in his new position.
On December 7, a Swiss Parliament elected a member of the Socialisticс party and ex-leader of State Alain Berset for the term of one year. The voting was held online on the website of the Federal Council. Berset gained 140 votes from the deputies and senators, though for election for the post required only 91. He will be a heritor of the President Ignazio Cassis.
The office of President in Switzerland, who is elected for a term of 1 year, is alternately held by members of the Federal Council (Government), which consists of seven ministers.
In Switzerland, the President is not the head of state, as this function is performed by the entire Federal Council. At the same time, the President does not have the right to re-elect for a second term, and after the expiration of the term of office, he returns to work in the ministry, which he previously headed.
