Relevant issues of the development and deepening of the Turkmen-Uzbek strategic partnership were discussed today by phone by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the press-service of the Uzbek leader, the parties highly evaluated the results of the meetings on the high level during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan on October 20-21 of the current year, and also noted the importance of practical implementation of achieved arrangements and signed agreements, including by the means of continuing active interparliamentary contacts and exchanges.

During the conversation, the issues on the agenda of the Summit of the Organization of the Turkic States, which will be held on November 11 in Samarkand, were discussed.

We remind that it will be the first summit of the Organization of the Turkic States, established instead of the Turkic Council.

The international organization “Turkic Council”, uniting modern states with the aim of comprehensive cooperation between the Turkic nations, was established on October 3, 2009 at the Nakhchivan by the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye. On April 30, 2018, Uzbekistan joined them.

On November 12, 2021, at the VIII Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States in Istanbul, the Turkic Council was renamed into the Organization of Turkic States. At the same summit, Turkmenistan was admitted as an observer member of this organization. Since the end of 2018, Hungary has also had observer status in the Organization of Turkic States.

It is expected the upcoming summit will be attended by delegations of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Turkmenistan and Hungary as observers.
