Nine medals - one gold, four silver and four bronze - were won by Turkmen athletes at the Sambo Founders' Cup, which ended in Moscow.

Medals were awarded in 7 weight categories among men, women and in combat sambo.

David Avchyan won the award of the highest standard as part of the national team of Turkmenistan in combat sambo in the weight category up to 64 kilograms.

Silver medals were awarded to: Begench Baltayev (up to 79 kg), Guvanch Begaliyev (up to 98 kg), Muhammed Kossekov (up to 71 kg) and a representative of combat sambo - Kerimberdi Dovletov (up to 64 kg).

The International sambo Tournament “A. A. Harlampiev Memorial” was established in 1980 on the initiative of the Department of Physical Education of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where one of the founders of SAMBO, Anatoly Arkadevich Harlampiev, worked in recent years. The first All-Union sambo tournament in memory of A. A. Harlampiev was held in Moscow in the “Druzhba” universal sports hall on October 10–11, 1980.

Since 1982, these competitions have become international. Over the years of its existence, the tournament has become one of the most prestigious sambo events in the world. The best representatives of the world sambist community came to Moscow for the coveted medals. In 2009, the tournament changed its name to the “A. A. Harlampiev Memorial” Sambo World Super Cup. The name change gave a positive impetus to the recognition of “sambo” as an Olympic sport.

Since 2022, the prestigious tournament has been called the “Cup for the Founders of sambo”, in order to restore historical justice, because “sambo” was developed by: Anatoly Harlampiev, Vasily Oshchepkov and Viktor Spiridonov.
