Taking into account that the border area of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is influenced by the Aral Sea, both countries will conduct joint scientific research in the field of forest management in the Aral Sea region, and the creation of new areas of tugai vegetation.

Such activities will be carried out on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of forestry between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the State Committee for Forestry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As reports the head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Hydrometeorology, Candidate of Biological Sciences Jumamurad Saparmuradov, on the pages of the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are doing a lot in the field of afforestation of waste lands for their gradual reclamation, restoration or desalinization. In the Memorandum, this work is given appropriate attention: it is planned to organize training and study visits of specialists from the parties in order to improve forestry and environmental professionalism, to protect biodiversity – an integral part of forest natural systems, exchange of experience, technology and information.

In both countries, the fight against desertification, measures to protect forests from fires, pests and plant diseases, the cultivation of tree seedlings for reforestation, and educational campaigns to increase public awareness of the environmental significance of forests will continue, he noted.

Let us remind that Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of forestry was signed on July 14 within the framework of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
