Turkmenistan's diplomatic missions in Tashkent and Astrakhan organized mass bike rides

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan and the Consulate General in Astrakhan organized mass bike rides in honor of the celebration of the World Bicycle Day. This is reported on the websites of diplomatic missions.

In Tashkent, an 8-kilometer bike ride took place along the Ankhor river canal. In addition to the Embassy staff and their families, members of the Cycling Federation of Uzbekistan, Turkmen students studying at the higher educational institutions of the country, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora took part in it.

In Astrakhan, the event was held with the assistance of the Ministry of External Relations of the region, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora, students, as well as everyone, regardless of physical fitness and age, took part in the ride.

The growing popularity of cycling in Turkmenistan is the merit of ex-President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In 2013, a special program for the development of cycling in the country was adopted. Since then, mass bike rides and "Day without Vehicles" actions have been regularly held in Turkmenistan.

In 2018, on the initiative of Turkmenistan the UN declared June 3 the World Bicycle Day. At the same time, "The largest cycling awareness lesson" was held in Ashgabat, registered as a world record.

In 2019, in the capital's Olympic town, "The longest single line bicycle parade" was held with the participation of 2019 cyclists that also entered the Guinness Book of Records.

In 2020, a Bicycle monument was unveiled in Ashgabat, a composition of a globe with a contour image of the territory of Turkmenistan and the inscription "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road" in the center.
