The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has awarded Turkmen chess player Meylis Annaberdyev the title of grandmaster, Orient reports.
The corresponding decision was made during a meeting of the FIDE Council in Abu Dhabi in April 2022.
The chess player has overcome the necessary rating barrier of 2500 ELO. The 37-year–old grandmaster's current rating of 2507 points (excluding the results of the last tournament in which Annaberdyev participated) is the highest among Turkmen chess players.
Meylis Annaberdyev is a multiple medalist of international tournaments, including the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, where he won bronze, a multiple champion of Turkmenistan, a member of the national team of the country. Meylis grew up in the Annaberdyev dynasty of chess players. His teachers were Father Bayram Annaberdyev, master of FIDE and brother Serdar, Honored coach of Turkmenistan.
Currently, Meylis is a legionnaire in the city of Mersin, where he has a contract with the Turkish top league.
