Since February 14, the national ice hockey team of Turkmenistan has been intensively preparing for the World Championship (third division), which is scheduled to be held in April 2022 in Luxembourg.
Turkmen hockey players will perform in Group “A”, where their rivals will be the teams of Luxembourg, Turkey, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. The DPRK national team refused to participate in the tournament. In the group, it is necessary to take first place, since only it guarantees access to the second division.
According to information on the IIHF official website, in the first game (April 4), the hockey players of the national team of Turkmenistan will fight with the Turkish team. After a two-day break (April 6), our rivals will be the hosts of the championship (Luxembourg), after which the Turkmen team will face off against the Taiwanese team (April 8). And on the final day of the competition (April 9), Turkmen hockey players will play with the UAE team. All matches will be held at the ice arena in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg.
At its debut world championship of the third division, held in the spring of 2019 in Bulgaria, the team of Turkmenistan won small bronze medals.
