Initiative Groups from the Lebap and Balkan Regions nominated their candidates for the post of President of Turkmenistan

Today, meetings on the nomination of candidates for the post of President of Turkmenistan were held in the Lebap and Balkan Regions of the country, the Information Program "Watan" of the Turkmen Television reported.

Candidates were nominated from Initiative Groups of Citizens.

In Lebap, Perhat Begenzhov, Director of the Financial and Economic High Vocational School of the Lebap Region, was nominated for the post of President of Turkmenistan. In the western region of the country, Berdimammed Gurbanov, the Chief Physician of the Avaza Sanatorium, was nominated as a candidate for the highest state post.

At the meetings, speakers noted high business and moral qualities of the nominees, that earned them credibility not only among colleagues, but also the general public. It was emphasized that in all their positions related to such humane areas as medicine and pedagogy, they showed good organizational qualities, proved to be modest and responsive people as well as advocates of a healthy lifestyle.

The relevant documents were unanimously adopted at the end of the speeches and voting procedures at the meetings in the Lebap and Balkan Regions.

In their turn, the candidates from the Initiative Groups Perkhat Begenzhov in the Lebap Region and Berdimammed Gurbanov in the Balkan Region thanked the Initiative Groups of Citizens for their trust and assured that they would do everything in their power to justify it.

To recap, on February 17, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan registered six Initiative Groups of Citizens that can nominate their candidates for the upcoming March 12 early Presidential elections. Registration was made in accordance with Article 46 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan.

According to the above-mentioned Article of the Electoral Code, a candidate nominated from Initiative Groups of Citizens must be supported by, at least, ten thousand signatures of voters. At the same time, each of, at least, one third of the districts, cities with the rights of the district of Turkmenistan should have, at least, three hundred signatures.

The collection of signatures is organized by the Initiative Group of the nominated candidate. The Initiative Group should include, at least, fifty citizens of Turkmenistan who have the right to vote.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan registered two candidates for the highest state post: from the Democratic Party – Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov and from the Agrarian Party - Deputy Head of the Administration of Mary Region Aghajan Bekmyradov.
