Kassym-Jomart Tokayev supported Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's decision to hold early Presidential elections in Turkmenistan scheduled for March 12. The President of Kazakhstan informed his Turkmen counterpart of it during a telephone conversation held today.
"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed sincere respect for the President of Turkmenistan and supported Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's decision to hold early Presidential elections," the Press Service of the Head of Kazakhstan said.
To recap, on February 12, the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan announced the holding of early Presidential elections on March 12 after the decision of the current Head of State to give "young leaders the road to public administration." At the same time, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that he intends retaining the post of Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, to which he was elected after the establishment of a bicameral Parliament in 2020.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, huge political and life experience of the Turkmen leader will undoubtedly serve the prosperity of this state.
During the telephone conversation, the Presidents of the two countries also discussed prospects for further strengthening of bilateral relations, including the implementation of agreements reached following the Kazakh leader's state visit to Ashgabat in October last year.
The Heads of State noted with satisfaction the growth of mutual trade, the intensification of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, industry and agriculture. During the conversation, interest was expressed in further expanding trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two fraternal states, the Press Service of the President of Kazakhstan emphasizes.
