Football may be excluded from the program of the Summer Olympic Games if the FIFA project to hold the World Cup every two years is implemented, informs The Telegraph.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has published the "initial" list of sports that will be included in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Football is included in this list with the following note: "The IOC will monitor how the international calendar of matches change."
Earlier, FIFA announced its intention to hold the World Cup every two years from 2026. This idea was opposed by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), and the Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL).
