55-year-old Croatian specialist Petar Shegrt, who has a PRO UEFA coaching license, has been appointed the new head coach of the national team of Tajikistan. This is reported by the official website of the Football Federation of Tajikistan.

Petar Shegrt replaced Mubin Ergashev, who has been acting head coach since November 2021. He will prepare the Tajik team for the 2023 Asian Cup qualifying tournament, which will be held from June 8 to 14, 2022 in a centralized format.

Petr Shegrt was born in 1966 in the city of Durdevac (Yugoslavia), but has lived in Germany since childhood. As a football player, he played in amateur German clubs, in which he also began his coaching career. In 1996, the young specialist was invited to “Bochum” by Klaus Topmöller, with whom he had previously crossed paths at “Waldhof”. Then Shegrt was a member of the coaching staffs of “Duisburg” and “Waldhof”, and then he independently managed the Austrian clubs “Leoben”, “Ried” and “Wiener Sport-Club”. For a long time, the specialist successfully worked with young players, for which he received the nickname “architect”.

In 2006, at the invitation of Topmöller, Shegrt moved to Georgia, where he led the youth team of this country. After the departure of his compatriot, Petr Shegrt acted as head coach of the Georgian national team in two matches.

After leaving Georgia, Shegrt worked for several years with clubs from Indonesia – “Bali Devata” and “PSM Makassar”. In 2014-2015, he coached the “Zvezda” football club from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Croatian specialist led the Afghan national team in the qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup.

In 2018, he led the Maldives team, with which he won the 2018 South Asian Football Federation Cup.
