Specialists from the University of Göttingen have described a new species of branching worms found on the Japanese island of Sado. He was named in honour of a fictional character - an enemy of Godzilla with the name Ghidorah. The scientific name of the new species is Ramisyllis kingghidorahi. King Ghidorah (King Ghidorah) is a dragon-like creature with three heads. The Japanese worm has only one head, but the body branches into many hind limbs.

At present day, three types of branching worms are known. The first of them was discovered in 1879 in the Philippines and for a long time was considered as a unique and one of a kind. Scientists were surprised to find yet another "bizarre creature". According to experts, there are significant genetic differences between the species, and differences in the shape of certain body segments. However, like other worms, they have the ability to grow limbs, which, according to scientists, contributed to their evolution, informs mir24.tv.
