The capital of Indonesia will be moved from Jakarta to the southeast of Kalimantan by 2024.

According to daily.afisha.ru, this decision was made by the country's government in connection with the need to unload Jakarta. More than 30 million people live in the city, which leads to constant traffic jams.

In addition, due to the swampy terrain and the many rivers washing the ground, the city is gradually sinking into the water. It is also noted that at the moment most of the economic activity in the country is concentrated on the island of Java, where the current capital Jakarta is located.

The transfer of the capital will ensure the development of Kalimantan and the entire eastern part of the republic. The new capital of Indonesia will be named Nusantara, which means “archipelago”. The transfer of the capital will be completed by 2024.
