In Turkmenistan, the area under the sowing of potatoes and melons and vegetables is increasing

In 2022, it is planned to sow 106 thousand hectares of potatoes and melons and vegetables, including 65 thousand hectares of spring crops and 41thousand hectares of winter crops. Thus, the land area allocated for these purposes is increased by 50 thousand 450 hectares. Deputy Prime Minister Esenmyrat Orazgeldiyev, who is in charge of the agro-industrial complex, reported this to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a working meeting today, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

In addition, it was reported that the total area of land allocated in Turkmenistan this year for sowing crops is 1 million 403 thousand 120 hectares. Cotton will be sown on 580 thousand hectares, from which it is planned to obtain 1 million 250 thousand tons of "white gold" crops. Cereals are grown on 690 thousand hectares of fields.

The working meeting held by President Berdimuhamedov on the digital system was devoted to the implementation of the tasks arising from the Decrees “On the zoning of agricultural crops and the production of products by velayats in 2022” and

“On the cultivation of a high cotton crop in Turkmenistan in 2022”, as well as the Decree on approval of water use limits in velayats and etraps for the current year. In this regard, the reports of the heads of administrations of the regions of the country were heard.

The head of state addressed Vice-premier E. Orazgeldiyev and hyakims of the velayats with specific instructions to increase the efficiency of agricultural production, modernize the profile infrastructure, including the processing segment, focusing on the issues of rational land use, increasing crop yields, conducting science-based crop rotation, improving breeding activities with taking into account the soil and climatic conditions of each region.

It was also noted, that it was necessary to widely introduce water-saving technologies into the domestic agricultural industry, to continue on a program basis the work to revive the centuries-old traditions of the ancestors who had accumulated extensive experience in irrigated agriculture.
