Turkmenistan will attract loans from the Islamic Development Bank and the International OPEC Development Fund for the construction of two Ro-Ro vessels and one cargo ship. The relevant Decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov today during a government meeting, allowing the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs to conclude relevant agreements on behalf of Turkmenistan, the “Vatan” news program of the Turkmen television reported.

Signing the document, the head of state noted that Ro-Ro vessels are in high demand for transporting oversized cargo over long distances, and their use can significantly save time for loading and unloading operations.

Berdimuhamedov stressed that the strengthening and systematic renewal of the national marine fleet will contribute to the growth of cargo turnover through water transport, as well as to the effective use of the transit opportunities available in the country.

Details about the amount and terms of the loan are not specified. As previously reported by the media, the volume of the loan allocated by OPEC is 45 million US dollars.
