Surgeons at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, USA, performed the first successful human pig heart transplant. It is reported by “RIA News” with reference to the “New York Times”. In an eight-hour operation, 57-years-old David Bennett, a recipient with a life-threatening heart disease, received an organ transplant from a genetically modified pig. Now doctors are monitoring the patient for possible rejection. As the newspaper notes, organ transplantation from a genetically modified pig "gives hope to hundreds of thousands of patients with failed organs."
