Today, within the framework of his visit to Islamabad, the head of the Turkmen delegation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, met with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmoud Kureishi.

According to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, during the talks, the results of the 15th summit of the heads of the member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation, which was held on November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat, were discussed. In this context, it was noted that the visit of President Arif Alvi to Ashgabat gave an impetus to further build up mutually beneficial partnership between Turkmenistan and Pakistan in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The parties also emphasized the ongoing development of long-term relations between Turkmenistan and Pakistan in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Discussing cooperation in the energy sector, the diplomats noted the importance of intensifying interactions on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline, power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.

On December 19, Islamabad will host an emergency meeting on humanitarian situations in Afghanistan of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Countries outside the organization, including China, USA, Great Britain, Russia, France, Germany, Japan, Australia and Canada, as well as representatives of the UN, European Union, World Bank and other international organizations are invited to take part in the meeting. A high-level delegation from Afghanistan is also expected to attend the upcoming meeting.
