The Astrakhan region will increase the supply of industrial and agricultural products, including onions, potatoes and rice to the Turkmen market. A corresponding agreement was reached today during a meeting between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Governor of the Caspian region of Russia Igor Babushkin, who paid a working visit to Turkmenistan.

As reported by “Astrakhan News”, many issues were discussed during the meeting. Berdimuhamedov and Babushkin also agreed to create a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Astrakhan region, which will be located on the territory of the port of Olya. It was noted that this will contribute to the growth of mutual trade. This figure for 9 months approached 200 million US dollars (a fifth of the total trade with the Russian Federation - Ed.note).

Babushkin expressed his readiness to build new ferries for Turkmenistan, as well as dry cargo ships, container ships and other types of ships.

Separately, during the talks, the topic of education was touched upon.

“Today, almost two thousand students from Turkmenistan study at the universities of the Astrakhan region. We are interested in expanding cooperation in this area,” the governor said.

Earlier, we reported that during the visit, Igor Babushkin also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation with Vice - Premier of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. During the negotiations in the Government of Turkmenistan, the need to further develop contacts in the field of science, education, culture, health care, sports and other areas where there is vast potential for joint implementation was emphasized.
