The webinar "Study of the current situation on the current practice of using" green "standards in Avaza hotels" was held in Ashgabat within the framework of a joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza".
During the event, a presentation of international standards for ecological construction and a discussion of the possible introduction of "green" standards in Avaza hotels took place.
The webinar was attended by representatives of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, the Ministry of Education; specialists from the hyakimliks of Ashgabat, Turkmenbashi and Avaz etrap, the State Power Engineering Institute of Turkmenistan (Mary) and the Turkmen Institute of Architecture and Construction.
The participants of the meeting discussed the possibility of developing national "green" standards that will allow introducing the efficient use of energy, water and rational waste management in the country's hotels.
They also considered international certification systems for "green" construction, such as BREEAM, LEED and DGNB, discussed the prospects and problems of their implementation in national conditions. The participants discussed the possibility of developing their own "green" standard for the hotel industry in Turkmenistan in order to ensure sustainable management and environmental protection.

“Sustainable hotel management can save water and energy, reduce pollution and waste, increase revenue and improve the guest experience. The development and implementation of a national “green” standard for hotels in Turkmenistan will further contribute to the country's implementation of the Paris climate agreement.”
The project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaz" aims to promote the development of sustainable cities and reduce the negative impacts of urban growth in the country, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, reducing energy consumption and sustainable waste management within the framework of the country's efforts to achieve the goals of socio-economic development. The project provides technical, institutional and strategic support.
