An online meeting was held on the preparation of a financial account in Turkmenistan. The event took place within the framework of the project “Strengthening the institutional, statistical and information-technical potential of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics”.
The meeting brought together representatives of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics, the Central Bank, the State Insurance Organization and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was aimed at discussing the roadmap for the development of the financial account, as well as the creation of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council for the financial account in accordance with the roadmap.
The project "Strengthening the institutional, statistical and information-technical potential of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics" was launched in 2021 and is jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics (Turkmenstat).
Akmurat Danatarov, UNDP Program Analyst on Governance, Economic Diversification and Inclusive Growth, noted:
“The purpose of the online meeting is to present the developed roadmap and discuss further steps for drawing up a financial account (data sources, estimates, procedures) in accordance with the Methodological Guidelines for the Formation of a Financial Account and Balance of Financial Assets and Liabilities in the System of National Accounts of Turkmenistan. The creation of a financial account will improve the system for monitoring and analyzing economic and financial events, in line with international standards and will contribute to efforts to restore the economy. "
The project “Strengthening the institutional, statistical, information and technical potential of the State Statistics Committee” aims to strengthen the potential of Turkmenistan through the implementation of three main components:
- Strengthening the information and technical potential of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics, aimed at improving the quality of statistical data;
- Continuing work on the conceptual transition to the 2008 SNA and expanding the scope, granularity and quality of national accounts and complementary economic statistics;
- Strengthening the capacity of TurkmenStat for statistical reporting to measure the progress of the SDG.
