Turkmenistan and the European Union discussed aspects of increasing cooperation

Today, the Ministry of Finance and economy held the 19th meeting of the joint Committee "Turkmenistan-European Union", which was held in an online format, where the aspects of increasing cooperation were considered.

The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of a number of ministries, departments and business circles from Turkmenistan. On the EU side, representatives of the European external relations service, led by Luc Devin, Deputy managing Director of Europe and Central Asia, participated in the meeting. 

According to the state news Agency of Turkmenistan, the agenda of the current meeting included a wide range of issues related to cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, the private sector and other promising areas. In this context, the parties analyzed the results of joint activities, the state of mutual trade and considered the possibility of increasing it.

At the same time, the subject of an interested exchange of views was the topic of partnership in the energy and transport and communication sectors, the agricultural sector, as well as in the humanitarian field and the environment.

The participants of the meeting also paid attention to such a significant aspect as digitalization, which is due to the reforms implemented in our country by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, aimed at modernizing all spheres of life of the state and society, and large-scale plans for the industrialization of the economy.

In this regard, the importance of combining efforts to effectively counter the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and overcome its consequences and impact on the macroeconomic situation was also stressed. To this end, the parties agreed to exchange skills, technology and information resources.

The participants of the online meeting exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the field of education and health, where great importance is attached to the training and advanced training of specialists.

Interaction with partners from the European Union in the field of agriculture is aimed at actively implementing advanced technologies and achievements of industry science, improving the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex and stimulating entrepreneurship in its profile segments. The meeting also touched upon the environmental aspect of the partnership.

It was stated that for many years Turkmenistan and the European Union have been successfully cooperating within the framework of national and regional projects. Preliminary dates were also set for the 20th meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU Joint Committee next year.
