Topical issues of trade, economic, transport, and industrial cooperation and the fight against the coronavirus pandemic were put on the agenda of the meeting of the Council of heads of government of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was held today via videoconference, first in a narrow format, and then in a wide format.

Turkmenistan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. During his speech, the head of the Turkmen delegation emphasized that in the current conditions, the priorities of the traditional agenda are changing, and therefore it is worth paying close attention to measures to counteract the coronavirus pandemic.

In this regard, the CIS countries need to establish effective mechanisms of cooperation in this direction, the head of the Turkmen foreign Ministry noted.

"In particular, we are talking about the implementation of coordinated actions to ensure sanitary and quarantine measures at the borders between the CIS countries," R. Meredov said.

"At the same time, we need to fully use the mechanisms of scientific diplomacy. The initiative of the President of Turkmenistan in this direction implies a constant exchange of experience and information on the study of the nature of the origin of a new type of infection, forms of manifestation of diseases caused by coronavirus, " the head of the Turkmen foreign Ministry said.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts and developing common approaches to overcome the spread of COVID-19.

The draft Strategy for economic development of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the period up to 2030 became a crucial document considered during the session of the GSP. The content of the Strategy corresponds to the spirit and letter of the Ashgabat Declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the CIS member States, developed and adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan at last year's summit, and serves as a logical continuation of the above-mentioned Declaration.

The meeting reviewed and adopted a number of important draft documents, including the Priority areas of cooperation of the CIS member States in the field of transport for the period up to 2030, the plan of events dedicated to the Year of architecture and urban development in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2021, the Strategy for the development of cooperation of the CIS member States in the field of physical culture and sports for 2021-2030 and Joint efforts of the States – CIS participants in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
