Turkmenistan and Iran held political video consultations

Political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were held today in the format of a videoconference.

During the online meeting, priority areas and prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the context of implementing agreements reached at the highest level were discussed. At the same time, they stressed the constructive nature of the interstate dialogue, which is successfully developing in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Expressing their commitment to the further development of bilateral relations, the parties discussed a number of interregional issues and interaction in an international format.

The Iranian side highly appreciated the policy of Turkmenistan, which managed to prevent the penetration of coronavirus infection under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In this regard, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan's actions can be an example for other countries, the Turkmen foreign Ministry reports.

The Iranian side expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for providing humanitarian support at a difficult time. Touching upon the topic of international norms and principles, the parties noted that the main reference point should remain human well-being.

Speaking about the need to join forces in the fight against the spread of COVID-19, the diplomats focused on finding optimal solutions for the resumption of trade and economic, transit and transport relations. It was noted that the construction of disinfection and fumigation structures at checkpoints contributes to the acceleration of this process.

The sides also discussed consular issues, the work of the media, as well as the further development of cultural and humanitarian relations.
