The Turkmenistan national ice hockey team was invited to the winter Universiade, which will be held in Switzerland in 2021. This is reported by the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".

The invitation for our national hockey team to participate in the XXX winter Universiade was sent to the Turkmen ice hockey Federation by the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of sports and youth policy on behalf of the organizers of the representative complex Games. Student sports competitions will be held on January 21-31, 2021 in the Swiss city of Lucerne.

In this regard, currently the leading hockey specialists of our country have begun to form a national team, and the current championship was very timely in this regard, which helped to make up the preliminary core of the team.

As the Chairman of the ice hockey Federation Jora Hudayberdiev told the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, our opponents at the Universiade will be very strong teams from North America and Europe, so the Turkmen will have to make every effort in the matches to adequately represent their country. However, we already have sufficient experience of performing on the international sports arena, where we have achieved significant results. For example, at the 2017 Asian winter games in Sapporo (Japan), our team won the second division, and at the 2019 world Cup in Sofia (Bulgaria), where Turkmenistan made its debut in the third group, it won bronze medals.

In preliminary team included players of the four ice hockey clubs "Galkan", "Shir", "Oguzhan" and "Nesil". But the national team may change significantly, as many athletes from the same clubs will be entering higher education institutions in the country this year, which means that they will also be potential candidates for a trip to Switzerland. So the final composition of the Turkmenistan national ice hockey team will be completed in the autumn period.
