Ashgabat hosted a seminar on the introduction of preliminary passenger information system in Turkmenistan

A two-day national seminar on the implementation of the advance passenger information system (API) in Turkmenistan was held in the building of the UN office in Ashgabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.

The seminar was organized jointly by the OSCE and the International organization for migration to support the state in the implementation of international obligations related to border management and the fight against terrorism.

In accordance with the adopted resolution, the UN Security Council, in order to strengthen measures to ensure national and international security, obliges States to collect API data and create national API systems. The advance passenger information system is a standard of the International civil aviation organization (ICAO), making it mandatory for all Contracting States of the Chicago Convention, including Turkmenistan.

The national seminar aims to familiarize participants with the features, functions and benefits of the API system, the procedures associated with its implementation and use, as well as to develop the main steps for the implementation of the API system in Turkmenistan. Presentations were made by international experts from the United States, Europe and the CIS. Within the framework of the national seminar program, the participants reviewed the international, regional and national legal framework for the implementation of the API/ PNR system, got acquainted with the experience of its implementation in the United States, Slovenia and Kyrgyzstan. Representatives of the International air transport Association and Lufthansa airlines made their presentations on the role of the security system.
