A technical malfunction on a Moscow tram resulted in an accident with 22 injured

On Vodnikov Street near Building 1 in western Moscow, two trams collided after one derailed due to a technical malfunction. Of the approximately 70 passengers on board at the time of the collision, 22 were injured, including five children. Eleven of them were hospitalized in serious condition.

Twenty ambulances arrived at the scene. The Moscow Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation; a special commission, including experts from the Moscow Metro and the tram manufacturer, is tasked with determining the exact cause of the accident.

The transportation system in the Volokolamsk Highway area has been adjusted: the exit from Svobody Street toward the highway heading downtown has been closed. To replace the tram route, replacement buses have been launched, running from the Bratsevo stop to the Sokol metro station.
