Turkmenistan and ESCAP discussed expanding cooperation in sustainable development

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Shombi Sharp, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), to discuss partnership prospects in key areas, including sustainable development, transport, energy, and digitalization, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side emphasized the high level of partnership and positively assessed the results of joint work, including cooperation in disaster risk reduction and interaction within the framework of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).

Turkmenistan's commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its active participation in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and relevant forums was noted. Particular attention was paid to digitalization, the development of paperless trade, the introduction of the "single window" principle, and the expansion of practical cooperation with ESCAP institutions.

The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to the commission for its support of the country's international and regional initiatives, including resolutions aimed at sustainable development and addressing environmental issues, including those related to the Aral Sea basin.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further deepen constructive cooperation in the interests of the region's sustainable development.
