On 18 December, the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan, together with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan and the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, organised a public debate as part of the celebration of Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on 10 December.
The event was attended by students from the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for Humanities and Development, and the Magtymguly Turkmen State University. Representatives of national and international organizations were also present.
Participants discussed three topics: "Artificial Intelligence and the Protection of Human Rights," "Climate Change as the Greatest Human Rights Challenge of the XXI Century," and "Inclusion in Education." In a public forum debate format, students presented pros and cons for each issue.
The teams' work was assessed by a jury consisting of representatives of the European Union Delegation to Turkmenistan, national institutions, and international organizations. The evaluation criteria included the quality of argumentation, rhetoric, teamwork, and debate culture.
The organizers noted that the event aims to develop critical thinking, argumentation skills, and foster a culture of respectful debate among young people.
