Kazakhstan has proposed exploring the possibility of opening a branch of one of its higher education institutions in Turkmenistan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported following talks between the two countries' presidents, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President of Turkmenistan paid a state visit to Kazakhstan on November 24-25. During the talks, the parties emphasized the importance of developing cultural cooperation, including hosting festivals and tours, and discussed prospects for developing scientific, educational, and youth ties.

Particular attention was paid to the cultural and humanitarian aspects of bilateral relations. Tokayev noted that Astana hosted Turkmenistan Culture Days and the unveiling of a monument to Magtymguly Pyragy, timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen thinker. Meanwhile, a monument to Kazakh poet Abai was unveiled in Ashgabat.

The parties also confirmed their shared positions on regional and international issues. Tokayev expressed his readiness to work closely with Turkmenistan to ensure stability and security in the region, noting the importance of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia and cooperation on Caspian issues. Kazakhstan highly praised the events held by Turkmenistan as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
