On October 15, a seminar entitled "Overcoming Differences and Promoting Inclusion through Regional Cooperation" was held in Baku, organized by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The event was held at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku Hotel.
Representatives of regional governments, the World Bank, the International Telecommunication Union, and Japanese companies NEC, NTT, Toyota Tsusho, and Digital Knowledge participated in the seminar.
Akmuhammed Jumagulyev, Executive Secretary of the Editorial Board of the journal "Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan," spoke on behalf of Turkmenistan. He discussed the country's ongoing programs to modernize its telecommunications system and expand access to high-speed internet.
Jumagulyev noted that the recently approved Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy for 2026–2028 is aimed at diversifying the country's economy. Particular attention was paid to the city of Arkadag, where smart city technologies and 5G communications are being implemented.
A representative of Turkmenistan highlighted several areas for cooperation with Japan: technology transfer, smart infrastructure development, IT training, cybersecurity, and green digital technologies.
The seminar demonstrated the interest of countries in the region in using digitalization for economic development and strengthening regional cooperation.
