Meretgeldy Charyev, Director of the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan, presented a report on the key role of museums in developing and strengthening cultural cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan at the International Congress "Spiritual Heritage and Enlightenment in Central Asia."
The congress was held in Tashkent from November 13 to 15, and included sessions with the participation of heads of national museums, reports Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
In his report, M. Charyev emphasized the profound historical and cultural affinities between the two countries and presented the successful collaboration between the State Museum of Turkmenistan and the World Society for the Study, Preservation, and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan. This collaboration resulted in a book-album published in 2023, which presented information about the historical and cultural treasures of Uzbekistan housed in the collections of the State Museum of Turkmenistan.
A striking example was given of a unique handwritten Quran with commentary from the XV-XVI centuries, copied by the Turkmen court calligrapher ‘Id Muhammad al-Khwarizmi.
The director noted that cooperation is currently planned between the State Museum of Turkmenistan and the State Museum of Timurid History in Tashkent, and online negotiations have been held on joint exhibition projects with the Ichan-Kala Museum-Reserve in Khiva.
