Central Asian countries must strengthen cooperation on water resources issues based on equality and mutual understanding, and also increase joint efforts to address the region's environmental problems. This was stated by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent, according to the Golden Age publication.
"We look forward to further strengthening cooperation on water resources in the region based on equality, respect for each other's interests, mutual understanding, and solidarity. Overall, we support increased joint efforts to address environmental issues in the region," noted President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The head of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of joint work, "primarily on sensitive issues such as saving the Aral Sea and desertification." He welcomed the presence of UN agencies in Central Asia's environmental agenda and the establishment of specialized offices in the region.
"We are convinced that it is necessary for our countries to develop coordinated environmental diplomacy at the UN and to attract increasing international attention to the problems of Central Asia," added Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
