On October 30, the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, the organization's governing body, began in Samarkand. Turkmenistan's delegation was led by Minister of Culture A. Ashyrov.
More than 5 thousand representatives from 193 countries are participating in the conference, including heads of state and government, ministers, scientists, and leaders in the fields of culture, science, and education. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay attended the opening, and the opening ceremony was attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, and President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini.
The General Conference Presidential election took place this morning. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to France, Khondker Muhammad Talha, was elected. The conference will also include elections for UNESCO's governing bodies and its intergovernmental programs.
On October 28, more than 150 young leaders from 140 countries discussed climate change at the 14th UNESCO Youth Forum.
The 43rd session will run until November 13.
