The Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater hosted a concert, "Music of Peace and Hope," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The event was organized by the UN Office in Turkmenistan with the support of the Ministry of Culture, according to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko noted that over eight decades, the organization has become an integral part of the international architecture of peace. "Today, we have gathered not only to listen to music, but also to remember the values that unite us – peace, equality, and solidarity," he emphasized.
Shlapachenko expressed gratitude to the government of Turkmenistan, the diplomatic community, and UN agencies – UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, IOM, UNODC, ILO, and others – for their joint work to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
The concert featured the State Choir of Turkmenistan, the State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Honored Artist of Turkmenistan Rasul Klychev, and the children's choir of Ashgabat music schools.
The program opened with the composition "Heal the World," performed by Mansur Sharipov, Dovran Shammyev, Maisa Niyazova, Munisa Khudaibergenova, Asel Ruslanova, and a children's choir. Other performances included "Song of Peace" by composer Jeren Kurbanklycheva, "What a Wonderful World," "Let There Always Be Sunshine!", a UNICEF lullaby, and an excerpt from Vivaldi's "Seasons. Winter."
Individual compositions were performed with accompaniment from a sign language group. The evening concluded with a joint performance of "We are the World" by the artists and the audience.
